Not an emergency service. The Mandeville Canyon Association (“MCA”) and Aware Neighbors are operated by Westside Coalition, Inc. and are not affiliated with the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) or any government agency. This Site and our text messages are informational tools only and must not be used to make emergency decisions. Do not rely on them for evacuation, fire, medical, or any other emergency guidance. In an emergency, always call 9-1-1 and follow the instructions of official authorities.

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the website at mca.awareneighbors.com(the “Site”), the Community Fire Hardening Pilot program (the “Program”), and the MCA Text Alerts messaging program, operated by Westside Coalition, Inc., a California 501(c)(4) — through its Aware Neighbors program, on behalf of the MCA. By accessing the Site, enrolling in the Program, or opting in to text messages, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Site or its services.

1. Not Affiliated With LAFD; Not for Emergencies

Westside Coalition, Inc., the MCA, and the Aware Neighbors program are independent community organizations. We are not the Los Angeles Fire Department, not a 9-1-1 or public safety answering point, and not affiliated with any government or emergency agency. Information provided through the Site and by text message — including any safety, fire-weather, or preparedness content — is general and informational only. It is not professional, emergency, evacuation, or life-safety advice, may be delayed, incomplete, or unavailable, and must not be used to make emergency decisions. Always rely on official sources (LAFD, LAPD, NotifyLA, and 9-1-1) for emergency information. In any emergency, call 9-1-1 immediately.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and the account holder or authorized user of the mobile number and any other information you provide. Certain Program features are available only to eligible Mandeville Canyon residents and MCA members.

3. The Program

The Program supports community fire hardening, FAIR Plan transition, free preparedness gear, wildfire-defense infrastructure, and related resilience initiatives. Program features, availability, eligibility, and benefits may change, and some depend on third parties (for example assessment providers, LAFD operations, or manufacturers). We do not guarantee any particular outcome, insurance result, or level of protection.

4. MCA Text Alerts (SMS Program)

By providing your mobile number and checking the consent box on our sign-up form, you agree to receive recurring automated text messages from Westside Coalition, Inc. (operating the Aware Neighbors program for the MCA) about community safety and fire-hardening alerts, program and enrollment updates, free-gear pickup notifications, and event reminders. Consent is not a condition of MCA membership or of any purchase or benefit.

  • Message frequency varies; under normal conditions you can expect occasional updates, and you may receive messages more frequently during active fire-weather or emergency conditions.
  • Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile carrier and plan.
  • To opt out, reply STOP to any message at any time. You will receive a single confirmation and no further messages unless you opt in again.
  • For help, reply HELP or contact us at info@awareneighbors.com.
  • Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Message delivery depends on your carrier and device and is not guaranteed.
  • We handle your mobile information as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not sell mobile information, and we do not share it with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes.

5. Acceptable Use

We do not warrant that the Site or messages will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that any information is accurate or complete. As stated above, nothing provided through the Site or by text message is emergency, life-safety, or professional advice.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Westside Coalition, Inc., the Aware Neighbors program, the MCA, and their officers, directors, volunteers, and partners will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss or injury, arising from your use of — or inability to use — the Site, the Program, or the text-message service, including any reliance on information provided.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Westside Coalition, Inc., the Aware Neighbors program, the MCA, and their personnel from any claims, losses, or expenses arising out of your misuse of the Site or services or your violation of these Terms.
